Frequently asked questions

Getting started, waking up together, and getting help when something goes wrong.

Getting started

What is CoWake?

CoWake is a social alarm clock for iPhone. Set a shared alarm with friends, then join a short video call when it rings. Calls end automatically after five minutes.

Can I use it on my own?

Yes. Opening your solo alarm confirms you're up. You can take a morning selfie and share it with an invite, or just get on with your day.

What if we wake up at different times or live in different time zones?

Pick a time to meet. The alarm rings at the same moment for everyone, even across time zones. Already awake? Join to say good morning to the person waking up.

Why not Android?

CoWake uses Apple's AlarmKit to ring through Silent and Focus. It's for iPhone with iOS 26 or later.

Do I have to sign in?

You can start without signing in. Link Sign in with Apple if you want to recover your account on another phone. An unlinked account has no login you can use to get it back.

Alarms and calls

Does my camera turn on when the alarm rings?

No. Ringing doesn't open your camera. When you join a video call, the camera and microphone start if you've allowed access. You can turn either off in the call, or set an audio-only alarm.

How do I stop the alarm?

Tap Join and keep CoWake open until the bar fills. Stop only silences the current ring; up to four more can follow, a minute apart. Solo alarms stop when you open CoWake.

What is the progress bar for?

So you don't dismiss the alarm half asleep. Keep CoWake open for 8 to 15 seconds, depending on time spent unlocking after Join. Switching apps or locking pauses it. When it fills, the remaining alarms are canceled.

Do I have to stay for five minutes?

No. Once the bar fills, you can leave without the alarm ringing again. Calls end after five minutes so you can get on with your morning.

What if nobody joins, or my connection drops?

The bar still fills and cancels the remaining alarms. It needs no connection, camera, microphone, or other person.

Does it actually ring on Silent?

Yes, and through Focus. The alarm is scheduled on your iPhone, so it also rings without an internet connection. The call needs one.

My alarm didn't ring. Now what?

Check that CoWake has permission to schedule alarms in iPhone Settings and that the alarm appears on Home. Open the app to sync any changes. If it happens again, email me with the alarm time, your iPhone model, and iOS version.

Will this fix my sleep schedule?

No. It gives you someone to wake up for. Bedtime remains your department.

Free and Plus

How much of it is free?

Solo alarms and alarms with one friend, including the full call. A subscription allows up to eight people, and only one person on the alarm needs one. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.

Why are there in-app purchases?

Video calls cost money to run. In-app purchases help cover the infrastructure so everyone can use CoWake.

Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?

No. Cancel it separately in your Apple Account subscription settings. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it either.

When are games coming?

They're planned. There's no release date to announce yet. They'll be optional, and they won't keep your alarm ringing or extend the call.

Privacy and safety

Are you recording me?

No. CoWake doesn't record calls. The people you call could record their own screens, so only join calls with people you trust.

What can my friends see?

Your profile, unless you hide it, and the mornings you shared. People on an alarm with you can see whether you showed up. Feedback wall posts are public but don't show your name.

What if someone's being a problem?

Block or report them in the app. Blocking takes effect immediately. Reports are reviewed manually. You can also email help@cowake.app.
